Serissa Shawl Pattern

The Serissa Shawl is a calming sea of garter stitches with wedges of the main yarn interchanging with mohair sections. The Shawl starts with 7 sts at the centre back and grows asymmetrically to 442 sts. The asymmetrical shape is created by short row shaping of wedges interspersed by delicate mohair stripes. Finally, a lace border completed with a picot edge bind off adds a feminine touch to the otherwise plain garter stitch texture.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Wingspan: 170 cm / 67”. Height: 50 cm / 20”.

GAUGE

21 sts on 4.0 mm / US 6 / UK 8 needles in garter sts worked flat, washed, blocked and laid flat = 10cm / 4”.
Row gauge is less important for the result and is therefore not prescriptive. If you want an even lighter fabric or a bigger shawl you may choose to use larger needles.

MATERIALS

Main yarn: 2 skeins (100 g each) of 4ply Luscious Sock yarn, 85% Superfine Merino wool, 15% nylon (400m/437y per 100g) from Dyeing to Knit. Colour: “Almond Nougat”.

Mohair yarn: 1 skein (50g) of Lace Mohair, 72% Superkid Mohair, 28% Mulburry Silk (420m/459y per 50 g) from Dyeing to Knit. Colour: “Dusty Rose”.
Or if substituting yarn 800 m / 874 y fingering weight yarn with similar gauge and 420 m / 459 y of another mohair or lace weight yarn with similar yardage to achieve the size described.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS

4.0 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (or size required for gauge) circular needle at least 80cm / 32”.
2 stitch markers, blunt darning needle.
